A full city crew, including the Department of Public Works and drivers from the Water and Sewer departments, were out early Tuesday morning for the first significant snow of the season. Acting director of the DPW Mathew Solitro observed Wednesday, “We were hit at an inopportune time,” as the storm left authorities wondering if they should delay the opening of schools or close them. The first call was for a delay. “We were going to wait it out,” Solitro said of the verdict for a two-hour delay reached by schools and the city. However, the snow showed no signs of letting up and the decision was made to close schools. Solitro said the cleanup went relatively rapidly thanks to his crews.
