On Tuesday, National Senior Citizens Appreciation Day, the Pilgrim Senior Center threw a party for all seniors. About 130 people showed up for an afternoon of carnival games, music, and free food such as snacks and sandwiches. Attendees got to listen to live music performed by Joe Vono, whose mother Lucy regularly visits the senior center, enjoy lunch sponsored by All American Assisted Living, and even dance with Mayor Joseph Solomon. Kathleen Bennett, center manager, said it’s “always nice to take time to celebrate them [seniors].” She said most of the attendees were regular participants at the senior center, and that it was the first time the center celebrated appreciation day. Bill Strand, a regular at the center, said, “being with people and all seniors, it’s good to get out of the house.” He said that “being with people is just fun.”
