Robert S. “Rob” Shein, 63, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle against cancer on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Reid Losee and a son of the late Irving L. and Daphne (Boidy) Shein.
Rob was the director of the Language Lab and taught in the Department of Modern Languages at RI College for over 25 years. He had received his bachelor's degree from Arizona State and his master’s degree in Slavic studies from Brown University. He had served with the US Army from 1982-1986 as an analyst and was discharged as Sergeant. Rob loved fishing, going for long walks with his beloved dog, Margot, as well as cooking. His family considered him the master of grilled cheese sandwiches.
He was the loving father of Oksana Daphne Shein and Natasha Marion Shein (husband, Cristofer McCart) and the devoted grandfather of Alijah and DeMarcus. He was also the brother of Stephen A. Shein, Melissa L. Shein (husband, David M. Engley) and David M. Shein.
His funeral will be held Monday, October 16, 2023, at 9:30 am from the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown with a service in St. Matthew Episcopal Church, Jamestown at 10:30 am. A burial will follow in the RI Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Visiting hours will be Sunday 4 – 7pm.
