More than 100 people gathered at Top of the Bay Restaurant in Oakland Beach Monday night to support Ward 4 Councilman Joseph Solomon’s 2012 political campaign.
But, will he be running for councilman or mayor? That’s a question he’s yet to answer.
“I plan on running for whatever position that I can best serve the people of Warwick,” he said in an interview yesterday morning.
While he didn’t comment on the amount of funds raised, he said the event was “financially successful.” Tickets were $75 per person and $125 per couple.
“There was a great outpouring of support from the community,” Solomon said. “We’re continuing to receive donations.”
His wife, Cynthia, as well as his son, Joseph Jr., accompanied Solomon at the event. Additionally, several of his fellow council members were in attendance, including Council President Bruce Place; Ward 3 Councilwoman Camille Vella-Wilkinson; Ward 5 Councilman John DelGiudice; Ward 7 Councilman Charles “C.J.” Donovan; Ward 8 Councilman Raymond Gallucci; and Ward 9 Councilman Steven Merolla.
Further, former council members Helen Taylor and Bob Cushman, as well as citizens John Kennedy, Roger Durand and Rob Cote, who spearheaded the Car Tax Revolt last summer, were among those present. Members from the Ocean State Tea Party were also there, as was former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Frank Caprio.
Solomon has served the City of Warwick for 17 years, as he has been on the council for 12 years and was Municipal Court Judge for more than four years prior to being elected to the council.
“I’ve always enjoyed public service,” he said. “It’s a value that’s been instilled in my family.”
Solomon is also a lawyer and operates a law office at 703 West Shore Road.
