The Community College of Rhode Island will take over the Rhode Island State today for “CCRI Day.”
More than 200 faculty, staff, students and alumni will converge at the State House to showcase the impact the college has on the state of Rhode Island.
Participating student groups include CCRI’s Student Nurse Organization, who will be conducting blood pressure screenings; CCRI women’s basketball players who will challenge attendees to a one-on-one mini shootout; faculty from the college’s academic and career paths, Goldman Sachs 10KSB at CCRI; and the CCRI Knight.
During the speaking program, CCRI will be joined by Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi and Senate President Dominick Ruggerio and the more than dozen State Representatives and Senators who are also CCRI alumni.
CCRI president Rosemary Costigan will present Senator John Burke (West Warwick, RI) with his official diploma 38 years after he attended CCRI. During his last semester at CCRI in 1986, Senator Burke took a job with the company he was interning with and did not receive his diploma despite having completed all credit requirements.
