It doesn’t have a formal name, so over decades it’s become known as “Warwick Ave Tree.” The lot at the intersection of Betsy Williams Drive and Warwick Avenue that is populated with campaign signs during elections transforms into a forest of evergreens following Thanksgiving. For more than three decades is was run by Carol Dorr. Too old to continue operating the Christmas tree stand, Mike Hammond took over in 2016 and continues to operate it today with the help of family. The trees come from a farm in Maine and range in price from $35 to $95. This year Hammond started off with 600 trees, which Erica Hammond who is running the stand this year estimates will be gone by Christmas week. As of Saturday they had sold more than 350. Stand hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The team from left are: Steve Saturri, Jonathan Budzenski, Kevin Budzenski , Mike Hammond, Erica Hammond and Gwin Cox. And with a double fisted order of trees is Steve Saturri.
