To the Editor:
While I have no problem with individuals expressing their personal opinion that our country was founded on Christianity, I have to cite the words of our Founding Fathers when I see letters in the paper stating it as fact. They left no doubt by their written statements just what their intent was when they established this nation.
“The Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.” (Joint statement of George Washington and John Adams)
“I contemplate with sovern reverance the act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibit the free exercise therof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state.” (Thomas Jefferson)
That wall of separation has proved beneficial to both our government and the religious faiths of this country. We should be grateful that our Founders had the wisdom to create it.

As Robert quoted above “The Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.” - we surely know that it was not founded on Christian law, either.

The major difference in that respect from the West and the East is that Islam is BOTH religious AND political.

" Question with boldness even the existence of a god;because,if there be one,he must more approve the homage ofreason, than that of blindfolded fear." Thomas Jefferson

People don't realize that there is a difference between a government establishing a religion and religious people voting their conscious.
