Joseph E. Warburton, Jr., 74, of Warwick, RI, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at RI Hospital on November 12, 2023, surrounded by his loving companion and family. Joe was a lifelong Warwick resident and was predeceased by his parents, Joseph E. and Florence R. (Gooden) Warburton, both of whom he attentively cared for in their later years, and his sister Susan.
Joe worked for many years at the Metacomet Country Club and was an avid golfer himself, spending many years following in his dad’s footsteps caddying at Hyannis Country Club as a young man. Joe proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Diamond Head for two years during the Vietnam War. He went on to complete his associate degree from RIJCC. Joe was an avid reader of American history and would always be prepared to give a detailed lecture on the lives of our presidents or strategies of war. He was also a member of the Pawtuxet Athletic Club and enjoyed playing cribbage with his uncle Butch.
Joe leaves behind his sisters Nancy DeSisto (Michael) and Joan Warburton-Phibbs (Hugh) along with niece Emma Liana, nephew Liam, grandniece Penelope, grandnephews Ronan and Graham, his loving companion Tina Draper and several supportive cousins and neighbors.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 12 p.m. in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick. Visitation will be form 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in Pawtuxet Memorial Cemetery, alongside his parents.
