Warwick-born author to tell how to make it in publishing

Posted

On Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m. author Bob Hocking, will visit the Warwick Public Library to give a presentation on how to deal with the challenge of getting written work published.

Hocking, whose biography and publications can be further explored on www.inmybackpack.com, has published ten books spanning a wide range of materials, from sports and travel to observations, essays, and interviews.

His visit to the library on Oct. 3 is a workshop-based event titled “You may never get published (Horror stories and thoughts to help you try anyway).” During the event, he will share his thoughts and experiences on the publishing business as well as have an extensive question-and-answer section, so audience interaction is highly encouraged.

“You may want a slot on the bestseller list, a contract with an agent, and a space on a bookstore shelf, but there’s no guarantee you’ll achieve any of that,” it said in a promotional flyer for the event. “However, with Bob’s practical tips, candid encouragement, and entertaining anecdotes, you might find a reason to try anyway, despite the odds.”

The event will be designed around the theme of “things I wish I knew when I started” and will include differences in publishing methods, items to consider and be prepared for, tip[s about the business of writing, and experiences and observations Hocking has.

Hocking has conducted this workshop on several occasions, including at other libraries in the northeast. The event is free and open to the public.
