FLAG STOLEN

At approximately 12:20 a.m. on June 6, Officers Christopher Fernandes and Jamey Petit were dispatched to the Top of the Bay restaurant for a larceny in progress. The owner of the restaurant stated to the Police Communications Center that a large white cargo van had pulled over on a side street and someone from the van stole his 30’ by 20’ flag and left the scene.

While en route to the scene, Officer Fernandes observed a white Dodge cargo van heading north on Oakland Beach Avenue, which then turned west on West Shore Road. A traffic stop was then initiated and contact was made with the three occupants. While speaking with the occupants, Officer Fernandes could see a large U.S. flag on the floor at the rear of the van.

The driver was identified as Lucas Britton, 26, of 43 Bernon St. Apt. 2 in Providence. The front passenger was identified as Dylan Martin, 20, of 199 Agricultural Ave. in Rehoboth, while the rear passenger was identified as Taylor Degnan, 20, of 96 Ferncrest Ave. in Cranston.

When asked, Britton reportedly stated that he saw the flag on the ground so he picked it up and thought it would be “cool to have.” Martin allegedly stated that he was sitting on a wall near the restaurant when he saw Britton and Degnan running to the van. Degnan was then asked for his account, and he reportedly said that she and Britton hoisted the flag down from the pole, unclipped it, and took it as a “stupid prank.”

The owner of Top of the Bay stated that he wished to press charges for the theft of the $600 flag. An eyewitness to the theft was then brought to the scene and identified Dylan Martin as the person who took the flag.

Britton and Degnan were notified that a no trespass order against them was issued from Top of the Bay. Martin was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with larceny. He was also issued a no trespass order and later released with a court summons.

TANK DAMAGED

On June 4 at approximately 8:54 a.m., Officer Rose Michel was dispatched to Leo’s Truck Wash on Onset Street for a malicious damage report. Upon arrival she reported that she spoke with the complainant, who stated that he parked a tank with a Maine trailer registration in the lot of the business on June 1. On June 4 it was observed that the tank was damaged sometime during the weekend.

Damage to the tank included three internal valves that were stolen and two emergency valves that were damaged, with a total estimate of $3,000 worth of loss and damages. The complainant advises that they wished to press charges should a suspect be found.

MISSING WALLET

Officer Brian Holleran responded to Kent County Memorial Hospital on June 3 around 5:47 p.m. for a larceny report.

At the scene he spoke with the reporting party, who stated that she last used her wallet around 12:30 p.m. during lunch. She then carried the wallet afterwards and decided to drop it into her open purse, which was on the nurses’ station desk. When she went to retrieve the wallet around 5:30 p.m. she found that it was missing.

The woman made a complaint with security but was advises that security cameras were not working in the area of the incident. The wallet was described as purple with a zebra pattern. Contained inside was approximately $100 cash, a driver’s license, RI nursling license, and various credit and debit cards. The report was forwarded to detectives for review.

SHOPLIFTING

On June 3 at approximately 6:08 p.m., Officer Quentin Tavares was dispatched to the Bald Hill Road Target for a report of a shoplifting. Prior to the officer’s arrival, dispatch explained that an adult female was currently in custody in the store’s loss prevention office. At the scene, Officer Tavares spoke with a member of loss prevention, who explained he observed a man and woman enter the store who he recognized from a previous theft within that store. He followed the pair, and the female allegedly selected three cans of baby formula and then concealed them in her purse. She then passed all points of sale without paying. She was stopped outside of the store and escorted inside, where $50.97 worth of formula was recovered.

Kimberly Zinno, 46, of 792 Douglas Ave. in Providence, was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. She was charged with shoplifting and later released with a district court summons.

STOLEN CAR

On June 6 around 6:10 a.m., Officer Randy Bell was dispatched to Easton Ave for a report of a stolen motor vehicle. At the scene he spoke with the reporting party, who said that she went to Domino’s Pizza around 10 p.m. on May 31 then parked her vehicle. When she went outside the next morning she discovered the vehicle was not in the driveway.

The woman could not remember if she locked the doors of the vehicle, did not know who took her vehicle, and that she has the only set of keys to the car. The report was forwarded to department detectives for review.

STOLEN PURSE

On June 4 around 8:06 a.m., Officer Robert Canis-Langlais met with a victim in the lobby of police headquarters for a larceny report. The woman stated that on June 3, her purse was stolen off of the back of her chair at The Trap restaurant. The incident occurs between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on June 3. She described the purse as a blue mermaid purse, and contained inside was her cell phone, $175 in cash, her license, a key fob, and other keys. She stated that she reported the incident to the manager of the restaurant.

The woman said that she did find her phone using an application that was tracking it off of Ives Road. However, the other contents were not found, however the other contents were not found.

    If you leave flags hanging around on poles, you are just asking for them to be stolen.

    "Stupid prank..." He got the "stupid" part right- a criminal record for taking something so noticeable.

    The report fails to mention if mind-altering substances were involved or if Mr. Martin is that stupid while clean and/or sober.

    I wonder if he blames the nosy owner for his arrest.
