Wings & seafood chain comes to Rhode Island

Emma’s Wings & Seafood chain has made its way north to 840 Allens Ave. in Providence, just a few blocks from the Cranston line, on the way home from the Route 95 exit that many commuters use to get home to Edgewood, Pawtuxet, Governor Francis and points south.

Emma’s is known for its eclectic takeout menu that offers nearly two dozen wings flavors and three types of fried fish (tilapia, catfish and whiting).

The site of the former Chinese takeout has two tables of four and a small counter. Takeout orders are ready in ten to fifteen minutes.

We tried the wings with Teriyaki sauce and with honey garlic parmesan and found them both quite tasty and tender, if a bit small.

Five wings are $6.99; 10 wings are $12.99, all the way up to 50 pieces for $49.99.

I enjoyed two generous pieces of catfish for $8.49. You can get your shrimp grilled or fried, six pieces for $8.99. For the kids, there are the ever-popular chicken tenders, three for $7.99.

The chicken and seafood items also come in combos, with French fries and canned drinks, ranging from $11.99 for the five pcs wings combo to $14.99 for the 9 pcs crispy jumbo shrimp combo.

Emma’s Low Country Boil features shrimp, black mussels, snow crab, crawfish or a combination of the above, ranging from $15.99 to $39.99. The boils come with corn, potatoes, sausage and egg. Seasoning levels range from mild to hot and include Cajun, garlic butter, lemon pepper and Old Bay.

A small or large fried rice goes nicely with the meals, while side orders of fries, onion rings, okra, honey toast, calamari, Cajun corn, spring rolls and hush puppies add to your meal. We tried the hush puppies ($3.99) and enjoyed them.

It is nice to have something different to choose from besides the dozens of Chinese and pizza takeouts within a few miles of most of us.
