Wisdom of these wars?
To the Editor:
Hillary Clinton represents everything that is wrong with the political class. "The Donald" represents everything that is wrong with American society. The Washington war party of corrupt and babbling fools represents the moneyed interests.
We send people to Washington and expect them to "promote the general welfare." Is that what they have been doing? What are the results of their economic "Globalization" initiatives: A depression of wages and a competitive race to the bottom, deindustrialization, outsourcing, speedups, increased unemployment, "deaths of despair," the destruction of unions and a flood of desperately poor and war-torn migrants.
And what has been the results of their financial deregulation, tax cutting and corporate subsidization schemes: A near collapse of the economy, a doubling of the national debt, an increase of the power and parasitism of the financial sector, an unprecedented transfer of wealth and income from labor to capital, and social and economic inequality not seen since the Gilded Age.
The only unanimity in Washington is for more wars and weapon systems, and "reforming" social programs to pay for them.
We have been continuously at war for 17 years and it has been normalized by the political elite and the servile and sanitized media.
Why is it that we never see or read anything from our "representatives," or the "incisive" commentariat, challenging or even questioning the wisdom of these wars and the suffering and carnage they've produced?
They are provoking and preparing for a wider war and only the American people can stop them.
