Another senseless killing

To the Editor:

The horrific massacre of five innocent women in a bank in Sebring, Florida begs for an immediate solution of an invasion by an active shooter into any public occupied space.

Gun control is not the sure answer as a derange assassin can and will obtain a destructive weapon from many illegal sources. According to Small Arms Survey there are over 393 million civilian held firearms in the United States.

We need to defensively employ new means to give intended victims a living chance to safely escape from harm's way. Metal detectors at entrances, immediate alert systems, protective spaces, and qualified armed personnel, are only a few of the many proposed methods.

The need is urgent as we all are now candidates for becoming a victim from these increasing violent public tragedies.

Dear Justanidiot,

If an increase of security at banks, schools, restaurants, stores, and post offices saves just one life in the next 50 years, isn't it worth it?

Gun advocates always say that it isn't the guns fault but the person holding the gun. So how do we ensure that the guy holding the gun doesn't harm anyone? Should we be putting in more diligent requirements for owning a gun if it is the owner that is the problem and not the gun?

I can't reconcile the ever growing number of victims against the louder protests of gun owners. People are dying at an alarming pace from men who bring a gun to a public place and start shooting. Other countries with strict gun control laws show us that it is possible to stop this from happening. Why not here?

The answer is alot easier. Do what South Dakota is doing. Allow for concealed carry without permits for all law abiding adult residents of the State. Then there will be no gun free zones. No soft targets, and the active shootings will decrease or the number of deaths at the scene will go down immensely. The violent crime rate will fall precipitously in RI. The progressive democratic plan for America, at EVERY level, is a recipe for disaster for RI. and America.

The countries that have the lowest death rate by guns are the ones that have laws prohibiting owning a gun. Allowing more people to walk around with guns doesn't appear to correlate with lower death by gun rates.

NOT !!!

Do some research first. I don't leave home without my gun. Like American Express Card.

In US, most mass shootings happen in gun free zones, not were people can carried concealed.

So how does that explain how there are no mass shootings in countries where guns aren't legal?
