Ending the year with a splash

There’s nothing quite like a fire truck shooting a cannon of water to attract a crowd. Even better, for the students at Hoxsie School, the principal Gary McCombs and the teachers weren’t going to stop them from getting wet, in fact, they told them to bring their bathing suits and towels. The soaking started as an end of the school year party seven years ago and now is part of the school’s tradition. McCombs said some students start asking as early as September when the trucks – a ladder and engine – will be arriving. The event is held on the last day of school starting at 1:30 p.m. and lasting about a half hour. Classes gather on the basketball court and after being given their turn enjoy a freeze pop. Ross McLendon, whose first grade daughter Lucy got to make a spray run, provided these photographs. Thanks for sharing the fun.

Great story about a great principal, great teachers, and great firefighters all donating their time and extra effort to make Warwick a better place to live. Congratulations and many thanks to all who participated. Your donated time and effort will attract people to perhaps consider moving to Warwick and new taxpayers will lower the tax needs on the rest of us. Honestly, what outsider could read this article and NOT want their children to go to Warwick Schools.

    Great, great story!

    Happy Summer everyone.

Great job WFD on giving your time and effort. Job well done. I remember many times WFD stopping at Gorton JHS including our egg drop, and its always a great, fun time.

Now, If I could correct the fake mayor I'm not sure how teachers are donating their time when it CLEARLY STATES the activities start @1:30PM AND LAST ABOUT A HALF HOUR. Meaning DURING SCHOOLl. In his never-ending effort to pander to the teachers Rick Corrente can't even be bothered to read the articles. He just inserts himself into any topic as a way of pandering. More proof that this pandering liar will literally say anything to get elected. How pathetic!

    Dear Scal1024,

Are you out of your mind? Do you think for one second that there was no planning for this event? I agree that the time it happened was about a half hour DURING SCHOOL, but you'd have to be crazy to think there wasn't dozens of hours of planning. That effort; that sacrifice on the part of the principal, the teachers, and the firefighters was what I called "great" Scal, and IT WAS you faceless coward of a critic!

Hey Scal. Why don't you come clean? My phone number is 401-338-9900. My office is located at 1609 Warwick Ave. Stop being such a coward and show yourself. Or are you a nine year old? You sure sound like one. Admit that you're a henchman for the political insiders. Face me like an adult or, better yet, just shut up.

    Happy Summer everyone.

It appears as if I've struck a nerve with the fake, tax delinquent mayor. Perhaps, he should actually read the articles instead of looking to see if its about Warwick Schools, and then pandering to anyone he can. Maybe then he wouldn't embarass himself so badly. I credited the WFD for the great work they've done, because I believe it!

However, if you're going to "credit" the teachers on the great job they did here DURING SCHOOL HOURS, can you point me to the articles where you were critical over the teachers and their work to rule motion the past 3 years? How many students missed out on field trips, college recommendations, after school activities or help because teachers refused to do ANY OF IT without a contract? How about students who had school cancelled over a short sighted, selfish sickout? You can pander all you want Rick. FACTS ARE FACTS. You can continue to attack me but that won't pay your taxes on time, it won't explain what spending you will cut or why you praised Joe Solomon the last 3 years before deciding that now you are "against" him. No amount of threats, or bullying attempts will change the fact you needed somebody else to pay your taxes for you. What a disgrace. You can scream and shout all you want Rick...it doesn't make ANY of my statements untrue. Keep trying, maybe one day you'll figure out 1 way to cut spending. You pandering FRAUD!!!
