Police are working to identify two suspects following an armed robbery at the Akid Daily Mart on Broad Street earlier this week.
A revolver was fired during the incident, which occurred just before 9 p.m. on Oct. 1 when the suspects entered the store and demanded money. No one was hurt.
The first suspect is described as a white male, standing between 5 feet, 5 inches and 5 feet, 6 inches tall with a skinny build and blue eyes. He was wearing a “tan colored monkey mask” during the robbery, according to police, along with a loose, dark hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, dark sneakers and dark gloves.
He is said to have brandished a small revolver – holding the weapon with his right hand – and fired the weapon in the direction of the clerk. He also is said to have spoken to the clerk in English and Spanish, and threatened to shoot the clerk.
The second suspect is described as a heavy-set black male standing between 5 feet, 10 inches and 5 feet, 11 inches tall. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans, a white T-shirt, dark sneakers and dark gloves, police said, along with a white cloth that covered half of his face.
He also brandished a revolver, police said, and carried a black and gray backpack with thick straps into which money was placed. The second suspect said little during the heist, police said, and also took several boxes of Newport cigarettes.
Police said the men walked from Albert Avenue westbound into the store, and then ran eastbound onto Albert after the robbery. Whether a vehicle was involved remains unclear.
Anyone with information regarding the identity or location of the suspects is asked to contact Cranston police at 401-942-2211, ext. 5147. Detective Lee Sohn is investigating.
