On Wednesday approximately 660 Warwick Public Schools 10th and 11th graders will sit down to take the PSAT and SAT for free.
As part of a state-wide initiative, first announced by Governor Gina Raimondo in February 2016, students will be allowed to take the tests, an important component of most college application packages, without paying the testing fee. This year, normal fees for the SAT are $54.50 and the PSAT is $15.
The tests will be administered as part of the regular school day on Wednesday.
“This is clearly an outstanding opportunity for our students,” said Warwick Public Schools Superintendent Philip Thornton. “It ensures that all of our students will be able to take and utilize these tests in a way that is both convenient and without financial impact.”
Robert Littlefield, Director of Secondary Education said students were registered by their respective schools using the school registration system. This ensures every student will have unrestricted access to the test-taking opportunity.
The free SAT testing includes the free submission of scores to four post-secondary schools of each student’s choice.
”Preparing our students for life after high school has always been a priority of Warwick Public Schools,” Littlefield said. “Being able to take advantage of this initiative is an important part of that.”
