Warwick-based nonprofits have received a combined total of $857,281 in Champlin Foundation grant funding, it was recently announced.

Among the recipients is the Warwick Public Library, that was awarded $74,342 to finance repairs and upgrades at the Apponaug, Norwood and Conimicut branches.

Library director Aaron Coutu said the library had been looking for grants to improve the branches, and received everything that they requested.

“Working with Champlin, you have to prioritize the projects that you request,” Coutu said. “We were thrilled to see that they funded everything.”

The money will go to window and door replacements, as well as other exterior work throughout the three branches. The largest chunk, $67,732, is allotted to the Apponaug branch, which will also receive significant electrical work and repainted interior walls. Repairs at Norwood  are estimated at  $5,340 and Conimicut will get $1,270. Coutu said that he was encouraged to see the branches be the main focus of the repairs.

“Last year was the first year any of the branches had gotten money- they had primarily gone to the central location, so we were very happy to see that they were interested in improving the branches,” Coutu said. “A few million dollars over a couple decades have gone to the central library, and I’d like to share the wealth. They are gems in their neighborhoods, and I’d like them to feel as though they are.”

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick was awarded $154,047 to upgrade technology.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick Executive Director Lara D’Antuono said the grants have purchased new tutoring technology, which the clubs have needed for a couple of years.

“This technology will allow us to bring that tutoring to the next level,” D’Antuono said. “We can track the data for the kids…what they’re engaging in, what they’re not engaging in, what we need to spend more time on, what we need to spend less time on,” she explained.

Of the total grant, $43,607 is allocated to the Oakland Beach branch; $29,959  to the CLUB at Cooper and $36,914 to the Norwood branch.. The remaining money will be used by all of the clubs’ locations.

D’Antuono said the club also requested funding  for a bus to transport Winman students to and from Cooper, which it did not receive. She stressed the Boys and Girls Clubs is elated with what they received.

“This will make a huge impact on all of the kids that we serve at every age level,” she said. “We’re super happy- there’s going to be a lot of happy kids this summer.”

Plans to apply for a grant for the bus, D’Antuono said, are in the works.

Other organizations in Warwick receiving Champlin Foundation grants are Ocean State Libraries, which received $386,660 for cybersecurity upgrades, people counters, touch screen monitors and a Wi-Fi project; the Sandra Feinstein Gamm Theatre, $40,000 for new carpeting and technology upgrades, Thrive Behavioral Health, $200,000 for HVAC repairs and Amenity Aid, $2,232 for new outdoor donation bins.
