A Warwick man was arrested on Oct. 26 shortly after a robbery occurred at the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 1201 Warwick Ave.
Det. Capt. Robert Nelson reported that the call came in around 9:10 a.m. about a holdup in progress at the store.
Witnesses reported the suspect fled on a bicycle and entered the Chateaux Apartments complex at 1403 Warwick Ave. Police surrounded the complex and conducted a floor by floor and found Barry W. Jones, 43, of apartment 303, who was identified by witnesses as the man who told the pharmacists he had a gun and made off with a quantity of prescription drugs. None of the witnesses actually saw a gun, and police said no gun was found in Jones’ apartment when police executed a search warrant there. Police said they did find the stolen pharmaceuticals and some other stolen goods as well.
Nelson said subsequent investigation developed information that linked Jones to another robbery at the Walgreens Pharmacy at 1560 Warwick Ave. on Aug. 26. Jones was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery.
