To the Editor:
On a pleasant day last week, my daughter offered me a ride in her new car.
“Where would you like to go?” she asked.
“Oh, let’s drive past my old neighborhood on Narragansett Parkway,” I said.
My newly widowed mother moved there with me. I was 7 years old and became a third grade student at Pawtuxet School. I lived there until age 20, when I reported for active duty with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
When we approached Scandia Ave., I was shocked to see that every house had been demolished and the same was true on Naushon Ave., where my Uncle Joe and Aunt Annie Lizotte had a grocery store.
There must be a reason for all these changes. I hope the city of Warwick knows of positive plans to restore this attractive area, with its expansive view of Narragansett Bay, and enhance its natural beauty.
