The Rhode Island Interfaith Coalition to Reduce Poverty hosts their 8th Annual Interfaith Coalition to Reduce Poverty Conference tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Donovan Dining Hall at Rhode Island College. This year’s theme is “Tikkun Olam/Repairing RI.” There will be four workshops on topics of repairing Rhode Island including a panel with local mayors on how to address poverty on a local city/town level.
Rabbi Jonah Pesner, Director of Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington DC, is the keynote speaker and will be addressing the issue of poverty and what steps need to be taken by the faith community to address poverty in Rhode Island.
Mayors Scott Avedisian, James Diossa and Jorge Elorza will discuss how to address poverty at the local city and town level.
The mission of the Rhode Island Interfaith Coalition to Reduce Poverty is to organize leaders and members of the faith community into a force that can be mobilized and is to be reckoned with, at the federal, state and city/town levels on matters impacting the poor, the vulnerable, and the disenfranchised.
