Cool temperatures and a light drizzle didn’t extinguish the good times at the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company’s steak fry this past weekend.
The Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company, located on the corner of Main Avenue and Post Road on Kernick Street, uses the former fire station as a function hall and museum to educate visitors and preserve the long history of Warwick’s fire departments. Hundreds gathered Sunday afternoon for food, fun and more to raise funds for their organization and their 1940 Mack Fire Truck restoration project.
“I think we did great today,” said retired Chief Kenneth Smith. “We’d like to get the fire truck finished by next spring for its 75th anniversary, and events like this really help.”
More than 300 steaks were served, and event organizers expected to raise several thousand dollars for the company. Museum tours are available by appointment with Chief Smith by calling 736-8412. Additional information about the company may be found on their website, www.greenwoodfirecompany.webs.com.
