Betraying moral principles?

To the Editor:

Congressman Jim Langevin knows what it’s like to be helpless. As a young man he sustained a devastating injury that nearly took his life. For a time, his injuries rendered him as helpless as an unborn baby.

Mercifully, he survived the accident. But to this day he remains paralyzed and totally dependent on the care and protection of others for his physical well-being.

That is why I find Mr. Langevin’s decision to co-sponsor and vote for what is a legislative assault on babies in the womb so appalling (“Here’s why I’m supporting the Women’s Health Protection Act,” Providence Journal, Sept. 3). This pro-abortion act is a death warrant for helpless little babies hoping to be born. Unlike Mr. Langevin, they will be shown no mercy.

Mr. Langevin declares that he is personally opposed to abortion. He affirms the sanctity of human life. But in supporting this act he betrays his moral principles for the sake of political expediency.

Congressman Langevin’s unwillingness to protect the lives of innocent unborn babies is a shameful and unmanly act of moral cowardice. There is no other way to describe such treachery.

Representative Langevin represents the Party and not the people and he will never betray the Party for it is the Party that rules whether in Communist China or in the USA.

Congressman Langevin stance is a reflection of what most of his constituents want, a woman's right to chose. This is true for 2/3 of the country who want to see Roe v Wade stand. Most of these anti-choice nuts are also anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers, minimal gun control Trumpers who are angry at the world. I saw AH Liddle's other commentary regarding RIC president. He apparently is trying to deny history.

A H Liddle sounds like a cranky old man who needs a hobby other than writing letters to the Editor of the local paper.

I'm sure there are many organizations that could use a volunteer.

Three cheers for A H Liddle! Some 70 million babies have met a gruesome end since Roe v. Wade and yet it is not enough for the likes of some. When a person cannot see the fragile beginnings of a human being in the first 9 months of life, then they become hypocrites; they have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not. They become rebellious and a curse on those around them.

Would that there were more brave cranks like A H Liddle.

OK, lets just say it. No one has ever voted for Jim Langevin based upon his positions on ANYTHING. Ask the average voter in his district about Langevin's position on capital gains, immigration, foreign policy, crime, Second Amendment, estate taxes, or school choice. Exactly, not a clue. Understandably, people feel bad for him, and therefore vote for him. There, I said it! Langevin has clearly concluded that an "evolution" in his abortion position will get him invited to more cocktail parties with Beautiful People in DC and get a seat at the Cool Kid table. He might be right, short term. But ultimately, he will have to answer to a much higher power on why he abandoned any defense of innocent human life that, at it's most basic form, is a gift from God. Best of luck in your "evolution", Jim. You'll need it.
