The Gaspee Days Committee on Sunday announced that all of this year’s Gaspee Days events have been canceled in light of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
“The Gaspee Days Committee has been continually monitoring the State of Rhode Island COVID-19 guidelines. It is with a heavy heart that the Committee announces the cancellation of our 2020 celebration,” reads an announcement on the Gaspee Days website, gaspee.com. “This cancellation includes the Arts and Crafts Festival, the Road Race and the Parade. Again, ALL Gaspee Days events are cancelled.”
The announcement continues: “The work of our Gaspee Days Committee volunteers will continue and we will be back in full force for 2021. Also, we are pleased to announce that in June of 2022 we will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the burning of the H.M.S. Gaspee. The Gaspee Days Committee joins all Rhode Islanders in sending a thank you to all essential workers who are keeping RI moving.”

Perhaps a good time to re-tool the "Arts and Crafts" portion of Gaspee Days...It seems to have evolved into a flea market of junk manufactured in China...What does that have to do with 1772?
