Warwick Historical Society

West Bay Chorale
The West Bay Chorale welcomes new and former members, male and female, all ages. If you like to sing, attend rehearsals at Edgewood Congregational Church, 1788 Broad Street, Cranston, from 7-9:30 p.m. on Monday evenings. No audition necessary. Warwick Women’s Club
The GFWC Warwick Women’s Club will hold its monthly meeting Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Warwick Museum of Art, Post Road, Warwick. Members will be making thank you cards for veterans to be distributed to the VA Hospital and other veteran facilities. Refreshments will be available. Norwood Neighborhood Association
A general meeting will be held Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club, 43 Frederick St. A neighborhood crime update will be given, followed by a review of local rooming and boarding house issues. A session will then follow with meeting attendees to gather ideas on how to improve living conditions and property values in Norwood. Refreshments and snacks will be served. All are welcome.
Scleroderma Support Group
The next scleroderma support group meeting is planned for Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at Roger Williams Medical Center, 825 Chalkstone Ave., Providence, in the first floor treatment room. Guest speaker is Jeffrey M. Mazer, M.D., pulmonologist, on the topic of rehabilitation for scleroderma patients. For more information contact Carole Cowell at 781-5013.
In Our Backyard
The Buckeye Brook Coalition will hold “In Our Backyard,” a historical and pictorial journey through the Buckeye Brook Watershed, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. and again Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. The presentation, which is free, includes a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation.
Community Lunch
There will be a free community lunch and food pantry Sept. 28 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, Warwick. All are welcome. Please don’t arrive before 11 am. RIPTA #3 Warwick Ave – Hoxsie Four Corners stop at West Shore Nursing Home next to St. Mark’s.
Book Sale
There will be a book sale Sept. 28 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Steamship Historical Society, 30C Kenney Dr., Cranston. Maritime books, new and used, will be available.
Fall Ladies Instructional League
Fall Ladies Only Instructional League at Tin Cup Golf Course will be held Sept. 27, Oct. 4 and 11. Six holes of on-the-course instruction and league play each week begins Sept. 13 Fridays at 11 a.m. Lunch and prizes on Oct. 11. Featuring Rhode Island’s top golf instructors. Tri City Elks Events
Upcoming events at the Tri City Elks Lodge on West Shore Road includes a steak fry Sept. 28 at 5 p.m. Steak, French fries, salad and $1 drafts. $15 tickets at the bar.

Tribute to Baseball
Trudeau Memorial Center welcomes Scott Jablonski in a tribute to baseball Oct. 1 at 1:15 p.m. in the Patterson building cafeteria. Jablonski inspires and educates students throughout Rhode Island with captivating presentations to reach out to audience members to bring out the best in human character.
Taste of the Tour Exhibit
Warwick Museum of Art (WMOA), 3259 Post Road, is helping West Bay Open Studios (WBOS) celebrate the 5th anniversary of their popular Studio Tours with a “taste of the tour” exhibit that runs through Oct. 2. Original works by 23 WBOS artists will be showcased in the main gallery and at four special events that are open to the public free of charge. Tonight’s exhibit is WBOS Artist Demonstrations from 5-7 p.m. Warwick artist Carole Berren will demonstrate watercolors, and other artists will show how they create fused glass, photography, hand-lettering, plein air oil painting and fiber art. Toll Gate Open House
On Oct. 3 Toll Gate High School will be holding its open house. There will be a meeting of all parents at 6:15 p.m. in the Robert J. Shapiro Cultural Arts Center. Mr. Chrabaszcz will address the parents on various topics of interest. Beginning at 6:30, all parents will report to their child’s advisory period. Advisors will be distributing students’ schedules. After advisory, parents will follow the issued schedules and will have the opportunity to make appointments with teachers. The evening will conclude at 8:30.
Community Tag Sale
The Conimicut Village Association will be hosting its 2nd Community-Wide Tag Sale Oct. 4 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Maps can be downloaded from www.conimicutvillage.org to the locations of those participating. For residents living in Conimicut who would like to participate (this is free) and get on the list/map, email conimicutvillage@aol.com with your address. Advertising will be statewide.
Chopstick Auction
A chopstick auction for Warwick Association for Affordable Assisted Living (WAAAL) will be held Oct. 5 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway. Doors open at 12 noon, auction starts at 1:15. A Golden Chop Stick for only $10 gets you in all 75 drawings and can be purchased in advance from a board member. They can be purchased at the door. Bingo
Bingo will be held Oct. 5 at St. Kevin’s Church hall, 333 Sandy Lane. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6.
Historic Cemetery Cleanup
Behind Picasso’s Pizza there is a historic cemetery, Warwick Cemetery #30 – called Hart Lot – at the end of Call St. in need of minor maintenance. Only one field stone can be seen. Brush and leaves have invaded the cemetery and need to be removed. The Warwick Historic Commission is looking for volunteers to clean the cemetery on Oct. 5 at 9 a.m. Contact Connie Gliottone or Debra McDaniel at 921-4395 or cotink78@yahoo.com if you would like to help. Picasso’s is offering free food and water to participants.
