Captain Donald P. Galamaga, 84, a retired executive director for Mental Health, Retardation and Hospitals for the State of Rhode Island, former Deputy Assistant Commissioner for the Rhode Island Board of Regents for Education, and member of the Bradley Hospital Board of Directors for many years, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Rhode Island Hospital with his adoring family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 58 years of Margot C. (Mahoney) Galamaga. Born in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary A. (Burnett) Galamaga. Donald was the loving father of LCDR Peter C. Galamaga (Monica), Mary A. Ruggiero, Paul F. Galamaga (Sheila) and Dr. Robert W. Galamaga (Rachel); loving grandfather of Timothy, Daniel, Charles, Peter, Jared, Ashley, Caitlin, and Ryan; loving great-grandfather of William and Ryleigh; brother of Barbara Galamaga, Audrey Galamaga, and Emily Phillips. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Donald was a proud Navy Veteran who served for 12 years on active duty and over 20 years in the US Navy Reserves. He was the recipient of two Navy Commendation Medals and numerous other military honors. A graduate of The College of the Holy Cross, Don was an ardent Crusader for most of his life.  He was profoundly dedicated to his wife, children, family, community, country, and the Catholic Church. Don’s countless acts of compassion, kindness, and generosity over his lifetime affected individuals and families across the country and the world and were typically done quietly and without fanfare.  His legacy is one that deeply inspired everyone who had the honor of knowing him and will continue to do so for many years to come.

His funeral will be held Friday, October 28, 2022 at 10am from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane. Burial with Military Honors will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation on Thursday from 4-8pm.
