Marines from Fort Devens, along with iconic characters Mr. Potato Head (Hasbro), Geoffrey the Giraffe (Toys “R” Us) and the Duracell Rapid Responder truck, teamed up to “stuff the truck” with Hasbro toys and games and Duracell batteries for Toys for Tots Friday at the Toys “R” Us parking lot on East Avenue. According to a Hasbro representative, the company has donated $3.3 million in toys to the Toys for Tots program run by the Marine Corps Reserves this year alone. According to MSgt. Donald Schofield with the 25th Marine Regiment Headquarters, Rhode Islanders donated more than 11,000 toys this holiday season. Toys are matched with non-profit agency requests. Any surplus toys are sent to a warehouse in Worcester where they are sent to fulfill requests in other parts of the country. (Warwick Beacon photo)
