To the Editor:
Educators who take pride in their profession, and parents who desire a proper education for their children, should oppose passage of the dreadful Climate Literacy Act that has been introduced in the Rhode Island General Assembly.
Rep. Terri Cortvriend and Sen. Valerie J. Lawson, sponsors of this cynical legislation, intend to co-opt the public school curriculum in order to impose their cult-like belief in man-made climate change on the rest of us. They begin by targeting school kids.
Students in grades K-12 are to be drilled in climate catastrophe propaganda. The focus will be on what to think instead of how to think. The ultimate goal being brainwashed, docile students who will go forth to spread the climate change creed to their families.
There is to be no room for independent thought. And there will be scarce time for all the wonderful and awe inspiring things that young people ought to be learning about while in school. This Climate Literacy Act is not about education. It is about manipulating and exploiting school children for political purposes. As such it is a despicable act and should be soundly rejected.
