Toll Gate’s field hockey team donned purple T-shirts prior to Tuesday’s game with Pilgrim in an effort to raise funds for Friends of Destiny and in memory of Gianna Cirella. Organized by coach Jim Areson, who coached Destiny Lourenco when she was a member of the Vets High field hockey team, the Toll Gate players passed the bucket for donations. Ten-dollar tickets to a raffle for a pair of tickets to the Patriots/Buffalo Bills game of Dec. 21 including transportation by 5-Star Limousine, tailgate party and gifts were also sold. The raffle is being run by Jim O’Connell whose daughter, Jenna, played on the Vets team. Now living in North Carolina, Destiny has Type 1 diabetes in addition to other medical complications. Funds raised will be used for medical expenses, student loans and so she move back to Rhode Island. O’Connell can be reached at 265-6925 for tickets. Gianna, was a member of the Toll Gate soccer team when she died of sepsis. A foundation has been established in her name with funds being directed to fighting sepsis. (Submitted photo)
