Eleanor G. (DiSanto) Wetzel

Eleanor G. (DiSanto) Wetzel, 97, of Warwick, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Sunny View Nursing Home, Warwick. She met the love of her life and married Wilbur in 1950. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Saulle and Nicolina (Lombardi) DiSanto. Mrs. Wetzel was a clerk for Cranston City Hall for 35 years before retiring.

Eleanor and Will raised their family in Cranston, taking yearly summer vacations to Cape Cod. After retirement, Eleanor and Will spent their winters in Venice, FL. Eleanor and Will were PC Basketball season ticket holders, and rarely missed a game. Before the streets in Providence were cleared for driving after the Blizzard of 1978, they walked to the game in Providence. Eleanor learned to play golf later in life and became a member of Seaview County Club and later a member of Warwick County Club. Eleanor played in women's golf leagues both in RI and FL. She enjoyed playing golf with Will the most. Eleanor was a very active woman, belonging to several bowling leagues. In Venice she could be found riding her three-wheeler around Bay Indies. Most importantly, Eleanor enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the holidays.

Besides her husband Wilbur, she leaves behind her loving children, Janet Zartarian and her husband David of Narragansett, Barbara Hoy and her husband Peter of Dayville, CT and the late William Wetzel. Eleanor was the cherished grandmother of Regina Costa, Theresa Votolato, Dante Votolato, Vincent Votolato, Alison Hebert, and Adrien Hebert. Eleanor was the adored great-grandmother of Julien Cepeda, Jason Costa, Gabriella Costa, Jake Votolato, and Ruby Lipsman.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston. Burial will be held in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Friday morning from 9:00-10:00 a.m.
