Elmer J. “Mickey” Root

Elmer J. ¨Mickey¨ Root, 92, a retired jewelry toolmaker, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at the Riverview Nursing Home.  He was the husband of the late Joan (Rubycko) Root.  Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Omer and Etta (Penta) Root.  Elmer was the beloved father of Sharon A. Dansereau (late Gary), Alan J. Root (Susan), Karen J. Gousie (Michael) and Joanne Monahan (James).  Loving grandfather to Heather, Melanie, David, Meredith, Rachel, Camren, Riley, and the late Alex. Loving great grandfather of Ayden, Ashlyn, Benjamin, Luke, Ares, Reyna, and Zachary. He was the brother of Marjorie Albonico and the late Omer, Robert and Richard Root. Elmer was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War.
¨Mickey¨, as he was fondly known, will be remembered as a genuine and caring man who was always trying to make you smile – ready with a song, joke, or story for every situation.  He was a true family man and patriarch whose love and pride for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren knew no bounds.  Whether playing cards, working in his garden, watching old westerns, or sharing a homecooked meal, Mickey enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and friends.  His kindness and laughter will be deeply missed by those who were blessed to have known him.
His funeral was held Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 9am from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave, Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Timothy Church, 1799 Warwick Ave, Warwick.  Burial with Military Honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
