Enerjy – superb Mediterranean food

Restaurant Review by Don Fowler

This superb little takeout restaurant is one of Warwick’s best kept secrets.

Enerjy (That’s not a typo) has been serving quality Mediterranean food less than a mile from my house for the past five months before I discovered it.

Set in a small shopping plaza at 400 Warwick Ave. – just past Shaw’s, Ace Hardware and the Cranston line, Enerjy filled the space of a former Chinese takeout restaurant.

There are two tables in the small space, but their business is almost exclusively takeout and catering. The menu is online, with colorful pictures of their varied offerings.

Enerjy’s motto is “Eat Well, Live Well,” and all their gourmet Mediterranean cuisine is made fresh and cooked to order.

Claiming to have the best gyros “in all of New England,” they also have enticing appetizers and desserts.

Joyce chose the gyro, a large pita sandwich of thinly sliced lamb/beef combination, slowly cooked and seasoned with lettuce, tomatoes, onion and a tasty tzatziki sauce ($9.99).

A variety of lamb, beef or chicken meals, cleverly titled “Make it a Plate” sell for $14.99.

The chef deconstructs the gyro, placing the meat over a bed of rice and adding tomato, onion and potato – making for a tasty and healthy dinner.

Photos of the Lula Kabob ($5.99), Pork Souvlaki ($5.99), Greek Salad ($9.99) give me many reasons to return.

Enerjy has a sweet of the day for $4.99, plus baklava, rice pudding and other Greek favorites.

There is also a variety of tabouli, hummus and other “chips and dips.”

Gourmet catering is a specialty, requiring a six hour notice and featuring a couple dozen family or group dishes. Go to www.enerjyfood.com for a complete menu with prices and photos and order online. Enerjy is open Wednesday to Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
