Family Treasures

For treasure-seekers everywhere, it is often the “thrill of the hunt” that captivates them and lures them to thrift stores, estate sales and flea markets far & wide. One never knows what they will find tucked in a dusty forgotten corner or even in a brightly-lit display case. As the adage goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!

There are no truer treasure-seekers than Kathy and John Dale, the owners of one of Warwick’s “best kept secrets,” Family Treasures. This cozy shop is filled to the rafters with finds of every kind ~ it is literally impossible to walk away empty-handed from this little gem on West Shore Road. The Dales are experts at recognizing what appeals to the hearts and minds of their customers, and they have put a heavy dose of love into their shop.

Family Treasures may be new to this location in Warwick, but loyal followers of the Dales will remember when the original Family Treasures opened in Conimicut Village many years ago. The Dales ran this shop for five years before taking off on an extended trip to the south. When life events brought them back to Rhode Island, it seemed like a good time to take a second shot at their popular thrift store; thus was born Family Treasures “Part Two”. It is now open for business at 2067 West Shore Road near the Oakland Beach section of the city.

Today, the Dales continue to amaze and surprise their customers with a never-ending and ever-changing inventory of delights, from the practical to the nostalgic to the whimsical (and everything in between!) They are always on the lookout for things that others have discarded or sought to re-home.

One of these such finds is an incredibly realistic mannikin; her name is Kate. When Kate is standing vigil at the shop’s front door, customers are invited to walk right in. John keeps Kate “on trend” and in-season by dressing and accessorizing her for every occasion. Everything she models, from fake head to fake toe, is for sale.

Beyond Kate is a room full of the unexpected! There is nothing quite like finding that old record album that helped you survive adolescence, or the Carnival glass that reminds you of your grandmother’s Carnival glass, or that pair of gently-used jeans that fit like a glove. What about the DVD or toy that automatically takes you back to your youth?

There are electronics, small appliances, vintage jewelry, clothing, shoes, CD/DVD’s, lamps, toys, select pieces of furniture, original artwork ~ there is something for everyone! Everything here is in working-condition, clean, and ready for sale.
