Finetco makes a long-term investment in A Wish Come True

Bill Finnegan and his family have been giving back to their community for decades. They recently announced a new partnership with A Wish Come True, Inc., that includes a new space and a $45,000 investment in the organization’s future.

AWCT is relocating from its Warwick office on Warwick Avenue to the Finetco office at 6 Jefferson Dr. in Coventry

“We outgrew our office space on Warwick Avenue, and the Finnegan’s have a more suitable facility,” said Executive Director Mary-Kate O’Leary. “They also have incredible space available for future growth for an indoor and outdoor area to host Wish Families and events. We need a prominent ‘headquarters’, and this building accomplishes those needs,” she said. Five staff will be moving to the new location.

A Wish Come True’s goal is to expand within a 50-mile radius of their new office, which would allow them to grow further towards Worcester and eventually into Connecticut.

Finetco owns West Haven Lumber in West Haven, Connecticut, and there is potential office space available if needed. A Wish Come True will also seek office space in Fall River, MA.

“For us to be successful, we must find local businesses and community partners that will help us grant wishes to our local children and embrace these families as they need time to get back on their feet. Finetco is a great example of this type of partnership,” said O’Leary.

Bill Finnegan, President and CEO of Finetco, joined the A Wish Come True Board of Directors in 2021. He is a major donor of Providence College Men’s Basketball and was connected to A Wish Come True by Steve Napolillo, the Athletic Director of Providence College. Bill came out of the gate thinking differently. He wanted his three sons—Sean, Ryan and Evan—to serve on the Board as Board Associates gaining experience with nonprofits. Although the Finnegans have one vote on the Board, they are all active in all the committees and events held by A Wish Come True.

“It is so exciting to have strong business leaders on the Board. Bill is known for asking lots of questions and is always looking out for the best interest of A Wish Come True,” said Colleen Duffy, Board Chairwoman. “He sits on several Committees, including Finance, Investment and Fundraising. Having his three sons on the Board has also been wonderful as they all bring a different perspective to our business.”

A Wish Come True is the oldest wish granting organization in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Since 1982, they have granted magical wishes to children. In 2019, they expanded resources to include granting wishes and providing resources to families that have a child with a life threatening illness living in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
