Greenwood Church is holding a special recital on Sunday, July 31 at 2:00 p.m. to dedicate a unique instrument: a harpsichord, built in 1976 by NYU computer science professor Paul Abrahams, who will be giving a brief talk and leading Q/A as part of the event. The harpsichord was purchased with a memorial bequest from the estate of David and Nancy Dickerman, longtime choir members at Greenwood, and will be dedicated to their memory. The performance will include music of Bach, Handel, Dandrieu, and Couperin, performed by John Black, Greenwood's director of music; violin pieces by Alexandra Nichols, the church's music associate; soprano arias from Olivia Black, choral director at Wheeler High School in North Stonington, Ct.; and flute works from Dr. Mary Ellen Kregler, professor of music at RIC. The performance is free; a freewill offering will be collected for future maintenance of the harpsichord. For more information, please visit www.gccp.org
