Melanie Brunelle may have graduated from Pilgrim this past June, but she will remain there in the record books.
Brunelle, who will be taking her talents to Rhode Island College in the fall, holds the school-high marks for the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches) and triple jump. Head coach Tom Dolce said that, while Brunelle is a true competitor, she still remains pretty “low key.”
Dolce said that even outside of Pilgrim she displayed her leadership, aiding him with a youth track program that he runs.
“Kids look up to her,” Dolce said. “She could’ve done five or six events, she’s that good, but you can only enter four at the state; but they look up to her because she helps out in practice and she always helps the younger kids.”
Her contributions at the RIIL Outdoor Track State Championships, which included victories in the triple jump and high jump, helped Pilgrim to a sixth-place finish out of 22 teams.
“She’s a very talented girl who always gave it her all,” Dolce said.
