Gladys Josephine Pontes, 93, of Warwick, Rhode Island went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 20, 2021, after a yearlong battle with Alzheimer’s. Prior to the illness, Gladys enjoyed a full, healthy and satisfying life.

Gladys, a life-long resident of Warwick, was born on December 19, 1927. She was married to David A. Pontes on February 3, 1966; they were happily married for 55 years. Gladys worked as a jewelry assembler for more than twenty years, later dedicating herself to her family as a homemaker until her passing. She and Dave traveled extensively, but their true happiness was always in returning home to be with family, supporting children and grandchildren alike throughout each of their own life interests and experiences. Family was definitively Gladys’ passion. She was also a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, having made her personal profession of faith at a Billy Graham Crusade in Boston in 1950, and continued as a faithful church member, most recently spending the final 18 years at Narragansett Bay Baptist Church, Warwick, RI. Those who met her, whatever the setting, but especially at church never failed to acknowledge her effort to welcome them, and her kindness.

Gladys is survived by David, her husband, Warwick, RI; daughter Barbara A. Quagan, Warwick, RI; son David A. Pontes Jr., Warwick, RI; and daughter and son-in-law Maureen A. (Pontes) and Todd Stricklin, Warwick, RI. She loved and enjoyed her 7 grandchildren: Kerri Quagan, Newport, RI; Kayla Quagan, N. Attleboro, MA; Trevor Stricklin (wife Christa), Jamestown, RI; Torrey Stricklin (wife Shelby), Cleveland, TN; twins Devon and Dillon Pontes, Warwick, RI; and Alexandria Stricklin (already in heaven, May 1, 2014). She had the blessing of meeting her one great-grandson, Clayton (parents Torrey and Shelby), Cleveland, TN. The impact of Gladys’ life is felt deeply by each family member, and each will treasure every moment and every memory. “Glad,” “Mom,” and “Nana” is, and forever will be, cherished.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Beacon Hospice, 1130 Ten Rod Road, N. Kingstown, Rhode Island, 02852. The family of Gladys Pontes wishes to thank Beacon Hospice, home caregivers, and involved nursing staff for the exemplary help and assistance they provided in home alongside family. The family would also like to express their gratitude for the kindness and prayers of friends and family.

Honoring the plan and wishes of Gladys, there will be no formal gathering. For information and condolences, please visit TheQuinnFuneralHome.com. (FLAG) Photo RI National Guard
