Harvey, David Watson Hawkins

David Watson Hawkins Harvey, 96, passed peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2024. He was the loving husband of the late Joan (Chandler) Harvey. Born in Yonkers, New York, he was the son of the late David C. B. Harvey and Maude (Hawkins) Harvey.

David graduated from Blair Academy in New Jersey in 1946 and received his Bachelor of Arts from Colby College in 1953. During the Korean War, David proudly served in the United States Army. He later received his Master's of Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1956 and his Doctorate in Education from the University of Connecticut in 1971. David went on to serve as the Dean of College for Mitchell College in New London, CT. He remained active with many of the retirees from Mitchell College, the Ex-Pats, for most of his life and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa. David also served as a Deacon for the First Congregational Church in New London, CT.

A devoted father and grandfather, David kept in touch with many members of his extended family. He loved spending time in Long Pond, New Hampshire where he fostered many close friendships with his “Lake Friends”. A lifelong learner, he enjoyed research, writing, nature, hiking with his grandsons, and was an active tennis player. David also enjoyed traveling, especially around the United States to the various National and State Parks. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

David is survived by his beloved children, David C. Harvey (Leo Morales) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Susan Morgan (Mark) of Warwick, Jane Harvey of Norwich, CT, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

His Funeral Services are private. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick.
