Hawks, Titans gearing up for states

The Bishop Hendricken and Toll Gate wrestling teams have enjoyed strong winter campaigns and are gearing up for the upcoming state championships on Feb. 24 and 25 in Providence.

The Hawks and Titans won their most recent matches in dominant fashion to stay hot as the big stage approaches.

Toll Gate rolled past Chariho 60-24 most recently at a home meeting.

Jack Sabatelli pinned his opponent at 106 pounds while Marcos Ramirez won by pin at 120 pounds. Jared Sabatelli pinned his opponent at 126 pounds, followed by teammate Landon Maher, who won by fall at 132.

Matt Sanatagata took home a win by pin at 138 pounds for the Titans, while Kason Wirtz pinned his opponent at 145. Tyler Hunter continued to impress for the Titans by pinning his opponent at 170 pounds in just over a minute.

Geoff LaLiberte won at 195 for Toll Gate, while John Ricci won at 220 and Tyrisse Volmar at 285.

Hendricken most recently beat Cumberland 52-23.

Mikhail Hulkow got the win at 106 pounds while Seth McGrew won by fall at 120 pounds. Braydon Wilding won his match by fall at 126 pounds, while Logan Ross won at 132.

Matthew Pappas won by fall at 145 pounds for the Hawks, followed by teammate Braeden Campbell, who won by fall at 160 pounds. Caleb Sclama won an 11-2 decision at 170 pounds, while state champion Spencer Fine won his match at 182 pounds.

Joe Church wrapped up the win at 285 pounds by pinning his opponent.
