Local residents soaked up the last of the summer sun this weekend at the annual JONAH Community Center carnival in Oakland Beach. JONAH, Join Our Neighborhood and Help, spearheaded the event with the Warwick Veterans Service Organization (WVSO) and raised at least $1,000 from raffles and food donations alone. Proceeds will be used for various JONAH initiatives, including scholarships, Adopt a Family and Toys for Tots campaigns, as well as food baskets and care packages during the holidays. “It’s important for the community,” said Ward 3 Councilwoman Camille Vella-Wilkinson, who helped establish WVSO. Rides, such as a carousel, Ferris wheel, “Super Slide,” “Rollo Plane” and more were provided by Northeast Midways, LLC. At left Shyla Motta, 4, enjoys a ride.
