The top-seeded Bishop Hendricken hockey team rolled to a 2-0 series win over Barrington in the Division I Quarterfinals, winning Game 1, 3-0, and Game 2 in a 9-0 shutout.

The Hawks would score all three of their goals in the second period of Game 1 to pick up the win. Griffin Crain, Nate Marshall and Nick Regine scored Hendricken’s goals while Blake Grislis and Aiden Pennachini added a pair of assists each. Hawks goalie Brayden Nebus recorded 26 saves in net.

“We were very happy. We worked very hard and created a lot of opportunities in the offensive zone. We blocked a lot of shots and when the puck made it through, our goalie made some big time saves. It was a great team effort. It’s a big win for us, we have quite a few new guys on the team so to get the jitters out, to just get going, it was a great opportunity for us,” said Hendricken coach Mike Soscia after the Game 1 victory.

“We’re just trying to play hard and let the opportunities come. Just trying to keep the puck down low and bury them in their zone. The opportunities will present themselves and we took advantage when they did,” added Crain, who has been one of the key leaders on the team after the Hawks graduated eight seniors from last year’s championship run. “I just trust my team. I know they have my back and I have theirs. I just try to go out there and give it my all and I know that they’re going to give it theirs. We came into the game with confidence, we beat them twice this year, we knew we had it.”

Hendricken would hit the road the following day to play Game 2 and once again claimed the shutout win to punch its ticket to the Frozen Four this weekend.

The Hawks were dominant from start to finish and were led by Crain and Marshall, who each scored hat tricks. Regine, Pennachini and Stephen Nardelli all scored goals as well, while Andrew Smith racked up four assists. Nebus stopped all 19 shots he faced in net.

Next up for the Hawks is the Warwick co-op, who dealt them their lone loss of the season to this point. Soscia hopes his team stays consistent and plays clean hockey in the next round, which has a trip to the championship on the line.

“We’ve just got to clean things up, get ready and do the right things,” Soscia said. “Limit your mistakes, hit the net more, start and stops on the puck, just continue to have good habits and continue to move forward.”
