Sept. 5, Photographic Society of RI will hold its first meeting of their 96th year on Tues., Sept. 5, at  6:30 p.m. as a social time and the meeting starts at 7 p.m.  The program will have three members sharing favorite travel photos, pointing out how they got them and revealing various tips and ideas.  Future meetings will include live demos, competitions, set-ups for photo ops, image studies and presentations from experts on a vast array of topics for a wide range of skill levels.  Whether a member or not, please come and enjoy the program to see what the club is all about.

Sept. 5, Gaspee Seniors Meeting will be the first meeting of the 2023 - 2024 year on Tues., Sept. 5 at 1:30 p.m., at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Pkwy., Warwick.  All meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month . There will be a short business meeting, followed by the annual kick-off activity, B I N G O . Coffee and dessert will be served.  New members are always welcome .

Sept. 9, Stepping Stone Ranch Presents Waves of Glory Stepping Stone Ranch, 201 Escoheag Hill Road, West Greenwich, presents Waves of Glory III on Sat., Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. FREE outdoor, all-day event filled with worship, guest speakers and more! Sept. 9, Vasa Family Fun Day is being held on Sat., Sept. 9, from noon - 5 p.m. at Little Rhody Vasa Park, 10 Boswell Trail, in Foster.  This event, being sponsored by R.I. District #3, Vasa Order of America, promises to be a great time for the whole family.  The park opens at noon with a flag ceremony at 1 p.m.  An authentic Swedish meatball lunch will be served, continuously, from 1 – 4 p.m.  (The lunch includes Swedish meatballs, gravy, mashed potatoes, asparagus, Lingonberry sauce, bread, and butter).  A full bar is located on the premises.  Music will be provided by DJ Big Bill.  Other food vendors and craft vendors will be available.  There will be raffle prizes and you don’t even have to be present to win!  There will also be bocce, corn hole, volleyball, basketball, cookie decorating, the balloon twister, horseshoes, and Tombola.  For the kids throughout the day, there will be a piñata, train rides, face painting, egg toss, pie eating contest, playground, sandcastle contest, and the ever-popular SAWDUST PILE!

Sept. 9, Smith’s Castle Art Exhibit on Sat., Sept. 9, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Smith’s Castle, at 55 Richard Smith Drive, North Kingstown, will feature an art exhibit open to the public. The exhibit will feature three Rhode Island artists: Providence artist, Susan Hardy; Newport quilter, Veronica Perkins-May; and North Kingstown watercolorist, Mark Burnham. The artists’ original works will compliment and explore the themes of our upcoming seminar:Anchored in Rhode Island: The Slave Trade and Reckoning with Our Past” to be held on October 14.  Wine, cheese, and light refreshments will be served. Sept. 9, The Hope Historical Society Annual Meeting will be held on Sat., Sep. 9, at 2 p.m., at the Howland Barn, 35 Ryefield Road, Hope. The Hope Historical Society invites the community as they kick off a new program year with a 2023 Archives Presentation  The election of Hope Historical Society officers will take place during the Annual Meeting with the Archives Presentation to follow. Sept. 9, Ocean State Orchid Society Auction will be held on Sat., Sept. 9, from 12:30 p.m. (preview), start time: 1 p.m., at Rocky Hill Grange, 1340 South County Train, East Greenwich.  Entrance in rear. A variety of Phalaenopsis, Brassavola, and other orchid genera will be available for auction. Come purchase orchids not commonly available at big box stores and house plant nurseries and to speak to an OSOS member to get care instructions to help ensure growing success! Complimentary refreshments available. Public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Sept. 9, Steak Fry Fundraiser will be held on Sat., Sept. 9, at 2 p.m., at the Tri City Elks Lodge #14, 1915 W. Shore Rd, Warwick. $30pp.  Music and raffles. Proceeds to benefit Rosemary's Wish Kids.  

Sept 10, The Kerri McClean “Vision of Hope” Cancer Walk will be held on Sun., Sept. 10, at Warwick City Park, Asylum Road, Buttonwoods/Warwick, with registration at 9:30 a.m.  Registration fee:  $30pp. The 14th annual walk is to benefit women with gynecological cancer and their families.  Proceeds go to the “Women in Need Fund” and the “Integrative Care Service Fund,” programs at Women & Infants Hospital in memory of Kerri McClean who succumbed to a five-year battle with cervical cancer in 2009.  Baskets and gift cards will be raffled.  Refreshments will be provided. Sept. 11, Hoagies for Hometown Heroes: Honoring Our First Responders, on Mon. Sept. 11, The Comedy Course The Comedy Course is returning for a 6th year, every Mon. night for 6 weeks. Three instructors, with over 100 years of combined stage experience, will guide you on a 6-week journey from writing your first joke to performing your debut comedy routine. Sept 11, West Bay Chorale Begins 2023 Fall Season on Mon., Sept. 11, at 7 p.m., with registration starting at 6:30 p.m., at St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Current singers as well as those interested in joining the Chorale are invited to register and learn details of the upcoming concert season. Artistic Director/Director is Eric W. Van Dervort. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings. The Chorale is hoping to find additional Soprano and Tenor voices. All current singers and those interested in joining must be vaccinated and boosted as recommended and everyone must show proof of vaccination. Sept. 13, NAMI-RI: Fall "Family-to Family" Course and Support Groups The Rhode Island Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-RI) is now accepting registration for their Fall session of which begins Wed., Sept.13, at 6:30 p.m. This is a free, virtual, 8-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. It is a designated evidence-based program, which means that research shows that the program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to a person with a mental health condition. Sept. 16,  The Annual Conimicut Village-Wide Yard Sale  will be held on Sat., Sept. 16 (Rain Date Sept. 17) from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.  Set up is at seller’s home and seller keeps all their profits. Conimicut Village Association advertises and publishes a map.  Email conimicutvillage@aol.com  to get on the map if you are participating as a seller.  Provide your name, address, phone number and indicate if you are also available for the rain date.  Last day for listing on the map is Tues., Sept. 12.  

September 16, The Concert in the Valley, the annual fundraiser concert for Moosup Valley Church, 81 Moosup Valley Rd., Foster, will be held from 12 to 5 p.m., on the lawn and outdoor stage at the church. The "suggested" donation of $20 includes our famous BLTs, hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks, cookies & brownies and additional homemade baked goods for sale. There will be a silent auction inside with unique items and theme baskets. Local vendors with  handmade jewelry, used books, plants, lovely watercolor prints, and more. Bring a chair, a blanket, and spend an afternoon of family-fun listening to local music and supporting the little church in the beautiful Valley. Sept. 16, Community Barn Dance will be held on Sat., Sept.16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Warwick Center for the Arts,  3259 Post Rd, Warwick. Truffle Creek (Lillian Chase, Cecily Mills, and Jonah Spear) will be playing and Don Heinold calling. No need to bring a partner or know how to dance in order to have a grand time! Admission only $12pp for a fun evening of live music and barn dancing!

Sept  16, Jimmy Buffet Night Fundraiser will be held on Sat., Sept. 16, at 6 p.m., at the Tri City Elks Lodge #14, 1915 W. Shore Rd, Warwick. Tri City coupled with the Parrot Head Club will host a night of music, food to purchase prepared by Black Dog BBQ, raffles and the Tiki Bar will be open for refreshments.  Charities benefiting the proceeds: Rock Steady, Boxing for Parkinson's and Wreaths Across America.

Sept.  22-24,  Friends of the Warwick Public Library Book Sale will have their annual book sale at the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick, on Fri., Sept. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m., for current Friends Members (new members can join at this preview for $10). The sale continues on Sat., Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sun., Sept. 24, from 1 to 4 p.m. The sale is open to everyone. The Friends support the WPL by sponsoring and/or funding various programs and events including museum passes, concerts, movies, guest speakers and summer reading programs for children, teens and adults. Sept. 23, Annual Harvest Festival at Smith’s Castle invites the public to join a celebration of the annual Harvest Festival on Sat., Sept. 23, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Smith’s Castle, 55 Richard Smith Drive, North Kingstown. This family friendly event the Sheffield Farm Petting Zoo and Pony Rides. Entertainment will be provided by the Farm Dog Band. Plenty of colonial games, activities, and crafts will be provided by our junior docents. Sign up for the prize baskets in the Great Pumpkin Roll. A variety of vendors will also be on hand for one-of-a-kind items.  Visitors to the historic house museum will be welcomed by docents in period attire and be able to tour the downstairs interior of the former home and grounds of the prominent Smith and Updike families. Sept. 23, Lakewood Baptist Church Group Yard Sale, Bake Sale and Snack Bar will be held on Sat., Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., 255 Atlantic Ave, Warwick. RAIN OR SHINE.  If you only come for the Bake Sale and Snack Bar it will be worth your while.  The Bake Sale usually sells out.  We have seven people who have rented tables plus three church tables.

Oct. 7, Spartan DEKA MILE: Operation Enduring Warrior (OEW) Fundraiser will be held on Oct. 7, at It Starts Here Fitness (ISHFitness), 380 Jefferson Blvd.,  Suite G, Warwick, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Looking for police, fire, military, troopers, and civilians to compete in a friendly competition for a great cause.  Race individually or with a partner, and each racer will receive a DEKA T-shirt and medal.  50% of all ticket profits to benefit Operation Enduring Warrior (OEW). Oct. 14, Annual  No More Hunger Walk A walk to call attention to food insecurity and raise funds for local food pantries  will be held on Sat., Oct. 14. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. Over $20,000 has been raised in the past two years. Nov. 4, Pawtuxet River 5K: Run of the Mills is sponsored by the Pawtuxet River Authority & Watershed Council and will be held on Sat., Nov. 4, along the River and Coventry Greenway.  Start and end will be at Rice Memorial Field, 51 Knotty Oak Rd. Coventry.  Check-in: 7 a.m. Start time: 8 a.m. This is a family-friendly 5K walk, run, roll or stroll and is a USATF timed race.  Sign up now at pawtuxet.org. Starting Saturday, Sept. 25, Citizenship Prep Classes at WPL Prepare for the U.S. Naturalization Interview with Citizen Preparation classes at the Warwick Public Library, starting Sat., Sept. 25, 10 a.m. to noon. NAMI-RI Offers Family Support Groups The RI chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-RI) offers free support groups for families and friends of loved ones who are struggling with their mental health. The groups are led by trained facilitators who also have lived experience as family members themselves. The group meetings last about 1.5 hours, and everyone who participates in the meeting gets a chance to share.  The other members of the group try to offer help and resources, when appropriate, based on their own experiences. Amenity Aid – Volunteers Needed We are looking for volunteers that would like to help us plan and staff community events, organize hygiene product collection drives and raise funds for Amenity Aid.
