The History in Music Series at Clouds Hill in Cowesett continues with the Hartt String Quartet in a special concert on Saturday, April 2 at 5:30 p.m.
The evening begins with wine and light hors d’oeuvres, followed by the concert in the parlor of the museum, and ends with dessert and coffee. Tickets are limited to 50 and are $50 per person. Reservations can be arranged by calling Clouds Hill at 884-9490.
The Hartt String Quartet re-established in 2012, continues the more than 60 year history of string quartets in residence at the Hartt School beginning with the original Hartt Quartet followed by the Emerson and Miami String Quartets.
Hartt’s Stringfest 2012 hosted the Quartet’s debut concert with special guest cellist Lynn Harrell. Past seasons included performances at The Hartt School’s Garmany Series, Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut and at Symphony Space in New York City; performing with Jaime Laredo, violin, Joseph Kalichstein, piano, and Errollyn Wallen, composer. The Hartt Quartet brings a combined 100-plus years of performing and mentoring experience to audiences, the students at the Hartt School, and beyond.
Since giving his Carnegie Hall concerto debut, American violinist Anton Miller has appeared throughout the United States, Latin America, Great Britain, Europe, and Asia as a soloist, chamber musician, recitalist, and pedagogue. In addition to his duties at The Hartt School, he is on the violin and chamber music faculty at New York University.
Praised by critics for “livewire intensity” and for both “delightfully effective” and “memorably demonic” playing, violinist Katherine Winterstein enjoys a wide range of musical endeavors as a chamber musician, orchestral musician, soloist, and teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the Eastman School and received her Master’s Degree from Boston University’s School for the Arts. Ms. Winterstein is the concertmaster of the Vermont Symphony, a member of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, and she performs regularly with the Handel and Haydn Society, Boston Baroque and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project.
Rita Porfiris, violist has performed in major concert halls and music festivals in the Americas, Great Britain, Europe, the former USSR, and Asia as a chamber, symphonic musician, and soloist. Previous positions include faculty at New York University, The University of Houston, and Florida International University, as well as a 20 year stint as a professional orchestral musician with the Houston Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, and the Radio-Sinfonie Orchester Berlin, collaborating with some of most recognized conductors of the 20/21st centuries: Leonard Bernstein, Michael Tilson-Thomas, Christoph Eschenbach, Kurt Masur, Sergiu Celebidache, and others. She received her BM and MM from The Juilliard School, studying with William Lincer.
Romanian-born cellist Mihai Tetel has performed as soloist with the Montreal Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, and the Sao Paulo Symphony, collaborating with conductors such as Charles Dutoit and Andrew Davis. As recitalist he has toured Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Hungary, Japan, and the United States.
Clouds Hill Victorian House Museum, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, is a house museum located in Warwick and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A private home that has remained in the same family since it was built; the house is also a museum and opens to the public. All proceeds will be used to preserve the historical house and bring a better understanding of the Victorian era and Rhode Island history to the community.
