Rep. Joseph McNamara used the occasion of the recent duel between Mayors Allan Fung and Scott Avedisian to raise funds to paint the road stripe for the Gaspee Days parade to present Col. Ron Barnes, commander of the Pawtuxet Rangers, with a $1,000 legislative grant. Barnes welcomed the funds, which he assured will be put to good use to preserve a recently acquired copy of their charter transcribed in 1777.
