Warwick Police responded to a report of a pickup truck colliding with a traffic signal pole on Jefferson Blvd. around 3:40 p.m. near the Airport Connector on Saturday. The Traffic Division Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident. There were no passengers in the truck at the time of the collision. The operator of the pickup truck, John D. Izzi, 81, of Greenwood Ave. in Warwick, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators are interviewing witnesses to the collision. At this time, neither speed nor alcohol appears to be factors in the collision. Investigators believe Izzi may have suffered a medical incident prior to the collision that may have been a cause of the collision. Any person with information related to the collision is requested to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at 468-4293.
