Jeffrey P. Morehead, 60, born on Flag Day June 14, 1959, as we always reminded him, passed away on the 24th of March, 2020 of cancer.

Jeff attended and graduated from Tollgate High School, Warwick, RI, in 1977 and briefly attended RIJC prior to enlisting in the US Navy. Jeff was a lifeguard at almost every pond in Warwick, RI during his high school years as well at McDermott Pool in Warwick and is credited with saving a young girl from drowning. Jeff proudly served and retired after 20 years in the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. To this day the family still doesn’t know what he did in the Navy because he always told us “If I tell you what I did, I’d have to kill you.” Jeff was proud of the fact he was in the Navy for 20 years and never set foot on a ship. Following his retirement from the Navy, Jeff lived in the Seattle area for 15 years and worked in the IT industry. Jeff enjoyed biking his whole life and was graced with the opportunities to race his multiple bikes in Europe. He didn’t enjoy the crashing part of biking but took in stride and got right back on. Jeff was an accomplished golfer and enjoyed it even more so when the ball went where it was supposed to go. Jeff enjoyed holidays with his niece and nephew and did photography on his weekends off traveling to various light houses in the Pacific northwest and around Rhode Island.

Among his other interests and talents, he enjoyed watching the Red Sox, the Bruins, his nephew play soccer, his niece playing lacrosse and riding horses, woodworking, music and old movies. Jeff could throw a curve ball that would wrap around a batter’s head for a strike. His cooking skills were phenomenal if you liked your jerky hot or your mushroom caps cold. His talents will be missed by all those that loved and knew him, especially his friends Marshall, Aubrey and Brynne.

Jeff was the son of the late James B. Morehead, and Jeff is survived by his mother, Shirlee Lombardo of Warwick and her husband Ron Messier (with whom he lived), three brothers, James (Cynthia) Morehead, of Coventry, Scott (Jill) Morehead, of Edmonds, Washington and Mark (Caryn) Morehead, of Melbourne, Florida, and his favorite sister, Shellee Morehead (David Ritchotte) of Coventry, RI. He is also survived by his nephews Mason, Cole and Gunnar Morehead; nieces Mackenzie Morehead and Arianna Ritchotte and his uncle, Michael Lonbardo and his wife Cindy of West Warwick.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jeff’s name to the Wounded Warrior Fund or the cancer society of your choice.

A private family funeral service will be held at Prata-Gallogly Funeral Home and will be streamed live on our Facebook page (Gallogly Family Funeral Homes) on Monday, March 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. A private burial with military honors will be at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service and Mass of Christian Burial will be planned for this coming summer, his favorite time of the year.
