Joan C. (Dowling) Cormier, 78, died March 16, 2013. She was the wife of Robert Laing and the late William H. Cormier.
Born in Providence, the daughter of the late Frederick H. and Catherine C. (Veasey) Dowling. She resided in Cowesett for 49 years and wintered in Naples, Florida for the past 15 years. Joan enjoyed fashion show modeling before becoming a real estate agent in 1978. She owned & operated Cormier Realty as well as working for DeFelice Realtors, ReMax and Cress & Co. Realty. She was a member of the Kent County Board of Realtors. She spent many years as a volunteer at Kent County Hospital and was a long time communicant of St. Gregory the Great parish.
She leaves two daughters, Karen A. Fletcher and her companion, Christopher Charpentier, and Det. Susan M. Cormier of the Pawtucket PD and life partner , Lori Edwards; two loving grandsons, Robert W. Fletcher and Devin H. Cormier. She was the stepmother of Thomas, Diane, Kevin and Kenneth Laing; and sister of the late Frederick H. Dowling, Jr.
Her funeral will be held Friday, March 22, at 8:30 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Church, Cowesett Road. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m.
