Joanna R. Messier and Ryan T. Sornberger of Alpine St., Warwick, have announced their engagement.
The future bride is the daughter of Richard and Susan Messier of Port Charlotte, Fla. She is a graduate of Warwick Veterans Memorial High School and Rhode Island College.
The future groom is the son of Bill Sornberger of Narragansett and Maureen Wilson of Cape Coral, Fla. He is a graduate of Pilgrim High School and Salve Regina University. He is employed by the Warwick Police Department.
The couple met through a mutual friend about five years ago; at the time they each were in other relationships. They reconnected three years later on a double date. They became engaged in March 2012 at Fort Myers Beach in Florida. They are planning a June 1, 2013 wedding.
