John Arthur Martin, Sr

John Arthur Martin, Sr., 96, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Morgan Rehab & Healthcare Center, Johnston RI. He was the loving husband of the late Mary Agnes (Whalen) Martin of 71 years.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late William Henry and Margaret (Barbour) Martin. He served in Army Troop C 42nd Calvary Unit during World War II, as a Teletype Mechanic receiving various medals. His Army Troop was in attendance at General George S. Patton Jr’s Funeral in Hamm, Luxembourg. 

Residing in Warwick, RI since 1953 with his wife they raised their family, shared a love for historical places and travel. He had the gift to play the piano by ear and stayed active into his 90’s enjoying walking at TF Green Airport for exercise. He had various employment during his long lifetime working at Seabees in Davisville, A & J Autobody in Providence, and was a Serviceman for Excellent Coffee Company, Pawtucket until his retirement. He was a devoted member of the Christadelphian Ecclesia Church in Cranston.

He leaves his son Steven J. Martin and his wife Paulette of West Greenwich, his daughter Bethany M. Martin of Warwick, RI. His beloved Grandchildren Jesse R. Martin and his wife Katherine, Daniel E. Martin, Christopher T. Martin, Justin M. Martin, and Corey M. Martin. And his five Great-Grandchildren Christopher, Laurel, Brady, Julia, and Caroline.

He was predeceased by two of his sons, Thomas J. Martin and John A. Martin Jr., his brother the late William K. Martin and his sister the late Marian L. Lusignan.

His Funeral Service took place on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick. Interment with Military Honors followed at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
