The Knights of Columbus Hall at 475 Sandy Lane is up for sale, although Grand Knight Joe Burns says they are in no rush to sell.
The 8,100 square foot building sits on a 37,897 square foot plot and is listed for $1,750,000.
“There’s nothing wrong with the building, and it’s really not a big deal,” Burns explained in an interview. “We’re a charitable organization, so if someone wants to give us the money, we’ll accept it.”
Burns calls the decision to sell the building a form of “due diligence” as “stewards of the community.” If the building does sell, Burns says the money will go towards a trust fund for scholarships and provide financial security for future generations of the organization. “It’s not about today, or tomorrow, but about longevity,” he said. “If the right thing comes along we’ll entertain it.”
Burns acknowledges how difficult the past year has been for many people, and wants to assist in any way possible.
The Warwick Knights of Columbus, the largest council in the state, is also celebrating a recent successful community blood drive, which was held on Jan. 17 as part of their “No Neighbor Left Behind” charity campaign. “If we’re ever going to do something, this is the year to step up and show our community we’re here for them,” said Burns.
According to Burns, all appointments were booked, and exceeded the organization’s goal of collecting 10 pints. Twenty to 25 pints were collected, and Burns says he’s “incredibly thankful” for all the support.
