They came dressed for winter, and that was a good thing, for the sunrise service conducted at Warwick Neck Light. Heritage Christian Fellowship Church on Warwick Neck has carried on the tradition of the Easter services started decades ago by the former Shawomet Baptist Church. Pastor John Gibbons delivered his sermon as the sun rose. Soon thereafter, people gathered at Oakland Beach for a service sponsored jointly by the First Congregational Church of Warwick and St. Rita’s Church featuring a reenactment of when the risen Jesus appeared on the shore to the disciples as they fished in the Sea of Tiberias. During the service, the First Congregation bell choir performed and kids circulated among those gathered on the sand with baskets filled with bread and fish sticks. The two churches have teamed up to offer the service for more than 30 years.
